Certified EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a structured form of psychotherapy that helps individuals process traumatic memories and experiences, leading to reduced emotional distress and a change in how the brain stores those memories. It's a form of psychotherapy that helps people overcome the emotional impact of traumatic memories by processing them while engaging in bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

How it Works:

1. Identifying the Target: The therapist and client identify a specific traumatic memory to focus on, along with associated negative beliefs, emotions, and body sensations.

2. Bilateral Stimulation: While recalling the traumatic memory, the client engages in bilateral stimulation, such as following the therapist's fingers moving side-to-side or listening to alternating tones.

3. Reprocessing: This process allows the brain to reprocess the memory, reducing its emotional intensity and allowing for a shift in how the memory is stored.

4. Positive Beliefs: The therapy also involves developing positive beliefs about the memory, helping to replace negative ones.

Benefits:

Reduced Distress: EMDR can significantly reduce emotional distress associated with traumatic memories.
Change in Beliefs: It can help individuals change negative beliefs about themselves and the traumatic event.
Improved Overall Well-being: By processing trauma, EMDR can lead to improved overall well-being and functioning.

Uses:

EMDR is used to treat a variety of conditions, including:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

  • Anxiety Disorders

  • Depression

  • Dissociative Disorders

  • Other trauma-related issues

Effectiveness: EMDR is effective in various studies and is recognized as an evidence-based treatment by organizations like the American Psychological Association and the World Health Organization.
